Vijay Vishwanath is a director in the Boston office. He joined the firm in 1986 and became an officer of the firm in 1993. Mr. Vishwanath leads Bain & Company’s consumer products practice. He has worked with many of the world’s leading consumer products companies and brands.
Mr. Vishwanath has led a number of assignments in the consumer products area, covering a range of issues including corporate and business unit strategy, portfolio optimization, growth, pricing, marketing spending and optimization, trade and channel management and cost reduction across the entire value chain. His recent projects have included helping a large North American food company realize significant profit growth in its portfolio through growth and cost reduction, developing and completing a multi-year financial and strategic turnaround for a leading HBA company, helping a household product company dramatically turnaround its profit performance and developing a winning trade program for a food company.
In addition to consumer products, Mr. Vishwanath has worked with several health care companies on issues of marketing, branding and consumer strategies.
Mr. Vishwanath has written on a variety of consumer product issues. His article, “Your Brand’s Best Strategy,” first appeared in the May-June 1997 Harvard Business Review and has been instrumental in driving strategy at several consumer product companies. Mr. Vishwanath has been a regular contributor to the Harvard Business Review and other publications. In addition, he has spoken on the topic of Growth and Winning Brand Strategies to several audiences in the US, Europe, China, SE Asia, and Latin America.
Prior to joining Bain, Mr. Vishwanath worked at Procter & Gamble. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering.
