European biomass demand to more than triple by 2020

The European energy market has begun to shift to biomass energy as a renewable energy source, "driven by the need to reach legally-binding targets to cut carbon emissions." However, 66% of Europe's biomass needs will be imported from other continents. Bain & Company European utilities head Julain Critchlow acknowledges that "a good proportion" of Europe's energy is imported, but questions "putting all your eggs in one basket", citing that a diverse energy policy provides more flexible solutions to any problems that may arise.
