Davos 2014: India's new status symbol – health

“Tell me which gym you go to and I’ll tell you who you are: that could be true for India,” says Norbert Hueltenschmidt , a health care specialist at Bain & Company. Currently more than one in ten Indians are overweight, a statistic that worries health experts because obesity increases the risk of developing a non-communicable disease (such as diabetes). More health problems will likely lead to billions of dollars in lost economic output. However, with the right products, this potential more economic loss could be turned around. NCDs can be avoided by living a healthy lifestyle and this is where the idea of “Health is the new wealth,” comes in says Hueltenschmidt, “It is a new commercial equation that companies in India and elsewhere could work from.”
