MARC-ANDRE KAMEL APPOINTED HEAD OF BAIN & COMPANY’S GLOBAL RETAIL PRACTICE

New York – July 2, 2018 – Bain & Company has appointed Marc-André Kamel, a 30-year veteran of the firm, to lead its global Retail practice. Manny Maceda, Bain & Company’s Worldwide Managing Partner, announced his appointment today. Marc-André will continue to be based in the firm’s Paris office.

Digital technology disruption, emerging market opportunities and changing consumer trends are just a few of the challenges today’s leading retailers face. Bain & Company’s Retail practice is focused on helping clients stay ahead of competition and deliver real sustainable results, through best-in-class omnichannel capabilities, continuous innovation in the value proposition to create differentiated customer experience and advocacy, systematic use of advanced analytics and relentless cost management.

Marc-André specializes in working with retail CEOs and senior management teams to help them drive corporate transformations, full potential programs, marketing strategy, cost and operational turnarounds, mergers & acquisitions, and large-scale change efforts. He has significant expertise in retail and consumer products, luxury goods, and travel and leisure.

“Retailers are experiencing a period of great turbulence, but it’s also one of significant opportunity for those that have the capability to reinvent themselves,” said Mr. Maceda. “Marc-André’s trusted expertise in guiding retail organizations through this volatility will be a significant asset for Bain’s clients seeking to strategically transform their businesses and gain an edge over the intense competition.”

In his new role, Marc-André will be responsible for business and client development, as well as the management of the practice’s consultants and professional staff. His focus will include the deployment of Bain’s advanced analytics in retail, as well as continuous innovation in product development and delivery models.

“The retail industry is not for the faint of heart. It requires significant investments and relentless big bets on trends and timing, which have always been difficult to get right. Add to that the pressures of digital disruption, the ‘Amazon factor,’ and rapidly evolving customer expectations, which make success in retail exponentially more challenging,” said Marc-André. “I look forward to working with my talented colleagues around the world to help our clients make the right choices and adapt their organizations to the changing rules of retail.”

Marc-André was until recently the chairman of Bain & Company's global Nominating Committee and served previously on the firm's global Compensation and Promotion Committee for six years. He is currently a member of the Board and Vice-President of AmCham France (American Chamber of Commerce in France) and is a regular speaker on retail and luxury. His perspectives on the retail industry have appeared in the Financial Times, Forbes, The Economist, and Reuters.

He earned a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University and completed an MBA with distinction from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
