Bain & Company

Bain managers are often promoted from within the firm's more experienced consultants. However, some exceptional experienced professionals who have demonstrated success within industry or consulting may be invited to join Bain at the manager level.

During a project, Bain managers take point responsibility for delivering answers to clients and take care of the day-to-day management of the case team. The manager is also responsible for the personal development, coaching and evaluation of the consultants, senior associate consultants and associate consultants on the team.

In addition to project work, managers have responsibilities in the management of their office. These can include, for example, matching interests of individual consultants with the available cases, marketing, professional standards and training. Managers further act as mentors and coaches to more junior members of the office.

The typical timeframe for promotion from consultant to manager is two and a half to three years. The road to partner from manager takes approximately three to five years, depending on performance.
