Community Impact Day Since its inception in 1999, Community Impact Day has taken place on the same day as the Bain Christmas Party, in early December. The Bain offices close for the day, allowing all staff to participate in volunteer activities with Charity / Community organisations working in the Sydney and Melbourne areas.
Australian Charities Fund The Australian Charities Fund (ACF) was developed as a result of pro-bono work done by a team of Bain consultants for the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The team researched charitable giving in other developed countries and observed that individuals in those countries give as much as three to six times more than the average Australian. The team reasoned that the missing ingredient might be a facility that would enable Australians to donate to the charity of their choice in an easy, effective and tax efficient manner. This insight quickly developed into ACF.
ACF's vision is to see significant social impact through employers and community organisations working together. Its mission is to facilitate engaged employee giving (workplace giving programs, fundraising, time and skills sharing) by providing advice, capacity building, facilitation and leadership to employers and community organisations.
ACF's experience has been built from helping over 80 employers to launch and grow employee giving programs. These programs reach more than 200,000 employees and have generated over $55 million in direct financial contributions to 180 community organisations.

Australian Brandenburg Orchestra The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra is just over 10 years old and has already established itself as the nation's finest baroque orchestra. It brings together the leading specialists in baroque and classical music, performing on 18th and 19th century instruments, as well as nurturing young talented musicians. Bain has provided strategic planning and implementation support, on a pro-bono basis, to the orchestra for the past five years. During this period the orchestra has grown rapidly in scale and recognition. Major achievements have been a four times increase in audience numbers; national and international touring; award winning recordings with several leading international soloists; a dramatic increase in corporate sponsorship; and the commencement of a highly successful subscription series. Bain teams have been involved in a wide range of activities from optimising growth and yields to constructing compelling corporate sponsorship packages. The subscription series has been an important focus over the past 18 months as the take up rate has exceeded initial expectations by five times! This has led the orchestra board to invest in a customer management system - a key element in building audience loyalty and optimising the economics of performances. A Bain team conducted the financial analysis and presented the recommendation to purchase the system to the board, which includes CEO's and directors of several major corporations.
Bain Workplace Giving Bain & Company Australian employees have access to a Workplace Giving program (developed and facilitated by ACF) that supports 11 community organisations. These organisations were selected based on staff interests. The program enables employees to make tax effective donations from their gross income. Since the program began in 1999, over $840,000 has been donated to these community organisations.
Bain's Australian office supports numerous other community initiatives through consulting and financial support.
