Senior associate consultant
As a Bain senior associate consultant, you're on your way to becoming a successful consultant. With more autonomy, responsibility and leadership opportunities, you will continue to solidify your skill set and become a true business professional.
After two successful years as an associate consultant, the next step, should you wish to remain at Bain, would be a promotion to senior associate consultant (SAC). In this role, you will be a more experienced member of the team and involved more deeply in all aspects of the consulting process, from development to execution, transitioning from analytical practice to delivering tangible results for our clients.
Most people are SACs for between six to twelve months; following that, and assuming they show strong analytical and leadership potential, they will be promoted to consultant. Some SACs decide this a good time in their career to move on to a new external opportunity (such as a private equity firm, corporation, start-up or nonprofit) or pursue an advanced degree at one of the world's elite graduate schools. Many former SACs go on to earn MBAs, then return to Bain with an offer that includes full tuition reimbursement.
Each new role at Bain comes with new responsibilities, challenges and opportunities. As an SAC, you'll build on what you did as an AC but expand your skills, take on more leadership within your team and work more closely with clients. The problems you'll analyze will be more complex, and you'll continue to hone your business judgment and your ability to persuasively communicate insights and conclusions.
Global training programs will help you develop hypothesis-driven work, planning and client skills. In addition, many SACs take advantage of Bain's externship program, immersing themselves in another company for six months to gain valuable, hands-on experience in that industry. Alternatively, SACs may transfer to another Bain office for six months to gain beneficial experience in a new country or market.
In most Bain offices, SACs are promoted from within the AC program. Some locations, however, also hire directly into the role; contact your desired office to inquire about their practices. The following are a list of general qualifications and attributes required for an SAC position at Bain:
- Bachelor’s degree from a renowned educational institution
- A solid team player who’s also an independent thinker
- A robust analytical skill-set, endless curiosity and a penchant to think the impossible
- Deadline-driven, organized and able to multitask
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
- Fluency in English is mandatory, but please check the local office page for any additional language requirements
Bain actively recruits candidates from a number of locations around the world. Search for your school to learn about recruiting events, specific application instructions or to connect with dedicated school team members.
