We recruit experienced professionals year-round. Your years of relevant experience help determine which role you should apply for at Bain:

  • Up to three years of experience — Associate consultant
  • Between three and six years of industry experience or one to two years post-MBA — Consultant
  • More than six years of experience — Manager

AC interviews

Bain's interview process involves a series of case interviews to help us get to know you better. Since each case interview will entail a discussion of an actual Bain case, you will also gain some insights into what it is like to work at Bain. We encourage you to prepare for your case interviews.

Successful candidates will participate in up to two rounds of interviews; each round will have two 30-45 minute interviews.

First round
You will meet with two senior ACs or consultants in our office if you are invited to interview with Bain.

The bulk of the first round of interviews will revolve around the discussion of Bain cases. Your interviewer will present a short business problem and then ask you to structure the problem and recommend a practical solution.

Your interview may kick off with an opportunity to share your achievements and future goals. You should also have time at the end to ask your interviewer questions.

Second round
Those successfully passing the first round will participate in a second round of interviews in our office. You will meet with Bain managers, principals or partners during this final round, which will consist of two 45-minute case interviews.

Consultant interviews

Bain's interview process involves a combination of case and experience interviews to help us get to know you better. Since each case interview will entail a discussion of an actual Bain case, you will also gain some insights into what it is like to work at Bain. We encourage you to prepare for your case interviews.

Successful candidates will participate in up to two rounds of interviews; each round will have two or three 30-45 minute interviews.

First round
You will meet with two Bain managers or partners in our office if you are invited to interview with Bain.

The bulk of the first round of interviews will revolve around the discussion of Bain cases. Your interviewer will present a short business problem and then ask you to structure the problem and recommend a practical solution.

Your interview may kick off with an opportunity to share your achievements and future goals. You should also have time at the end to ask your interviewer questions.

Second round
Those successfully passing the first round will participate in a second round of interviews in our office. You will meet with Bain managers, principals, or partners during this final round, which will consist of a combination of traditional case interviews, experience interviews, and possibly a written case interview.

The goal of the written case is to provide you with an opportunity to better demonstrate your skills in a more real-life situation. It will also give you a better understanding of the day-to-day role of a Bain consultant by simulating our work process. Bain will provide you with 20 to 30 slides that describe a client situation and ask key questions pertaining to that client. You will have 55 to 60 minutes to review the slides and prepare a short synopsis of your insights and recommendations before the interview begins.

In the experience interview, your interviewer will ask traditional resume and behavioral questions or present a mini-case based on your experiences to better understand you and your interest in Bain. If you do not receive an experience interview, you should expect experience interview-type questions as part of your case interviews.

Manager interviews

Bain's interview process involves a combination of case and experience interviews to help us get to know you better. Since each case interview will entail a discussion of an actual Bain case, you will also gain some insights into what it is like to work at Bain. We encourage you to prepare for your case interviews.

Successful candidates will participate in up to three rounds of interviews.

You will meet with two to three principals or partners in our office. Your interview may kick off with an opportunity to share your achievements and future goals.

The bulk of the first round of interviews will revolve around the discussion of Bain cases. Your interviewer will present a short business problem and then ask you to structure the problem and recommend a practical solution.

You will have time at the end to ask your interviewer questions.

Second and third rounds
Those successfully passing the first round will participate in a second round of interviews with Bain partners in our office. Candidates are often asked to participate in a third round of interviews with additional Bain partners.

At least one of your interviews will be a case interview, similar to those in the first round. You may also receive an experience interview. In the experience interview, your interviewer will ask traditional resume and behavioral questions, as well as questions about a mini-case based on your experiences, to better understand you and your interest in Bain. If you do not receive an experience interview, you should expect experience interview-type questions as part of your case interviews.
