Career path

Associate Consultants

Associate consultants (ACs) are typically recent university graduates and are the heart and soul of our organization. At Bain, you will be our frontline in developing powerful insights as well as driving results for our clients. We invest heavily in our ACs. That investment pays off, not only for Bain. A large number of our ACS become business leaders inside of our firm and across industries.

ACs who perform well and show outstanding potential are generally promoted to senior associate consultants (SACs) after about two years. In this role, your experience and maturity allow you to analyze more complex problems and develop deeper and higher-level client relationships. SACs learn to construct complex strategic solutions and take on greater leadership within their case teams.

Consultants

Our consultant role is designed for MBA students, advanced degree (MD, JD, PhD) candidates, and current Bain senior associate consultants. In recognition of your education level and work background, we offer challenging responsibilities along with unrivalled career prospects. It's all here for you at Bain.

As a Bain consultant, you are immersed in all aspects of our end-to-end process. Develop a plan to solve the client's problems. Execute the analysis. Translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations. Move the client to action. Everything you do is geared toward achieving bottom-line results for our clients.

Some time during their third year, a high performing consultant will be given the opportunity to manage a small team as a case team leader. This offers a chance for the consultant to further develop managerial skills in preparation for promotion to manager.

Internships

Bain Australia offers an exceptional internship programme to learn about the consulting industry and Bain & Company. SAs are immersed in all aspects of Bain to help them properly evaluate career opportunities after business school. SAs are given ownership of client issues and the responsibility and support to develop lasting client relationships. SAs are encouraged to develop their professional network and learn about Bain's strong office culture. To facilitate professional networking opportunities, SAs from all offices are introduced to Bain with a formal global training program.

SAs join case teams and replicate the responsibilities of a full-time consultant. They work directly with case teams and clients to solve business problems and drive change. Most SAs are amazed at the wealth of industry knowledge, client management and communication skills that they capture in only a few months, and the majority decide to join Bain full-time upon the completion of their MBA.

SAs are typically students between their first and second year of business school who are considering management consulting as a career. For detailed information on timelines for recruiting into Bain Australia please visit the Recruiting process and contacts page on joinbain.com.
