Resume tips

We receive a lot of résumés. Please consider some of these tips to ensure that your résumé is complete and stands out:

  • Write your résumé in English
  • Limit your résumé to one page; two pages should be the maximum. We are interested in learning about your most important experiences, accomplishments and transitions.
  • Use short bullets points (versus long prose) to describe your experiences
  • Tie your experiences and accomplishments to tangible results. Highlight any promotions or recognitions
  • Include your grades and relevant test scores
  • Note your languages and level of proficiency
  • List your extracurricular or extra-professional activities, particularly those that demonstrate your leadership ability
  • Note your personal interests or hobbies

Your cover letter should include the key points from your résumé and explain why you are interested in Bain. If you plan to apply to more than one Bain office, please explain on your application why you are interested in each office.

Interviews

Bain’s interview format involves a series of case interviews to help us get to know you better. Since each of the case interviews will entail a discussion of an actual Bain case, you will also gain some insights into what it is like to work at Bain. We strongly encourage you to prepare for your case interviews.

Successful candidates will participate in up to three rounds of interviews; each round will have two 45-minute case interviews. First round interviews are typically with senior associate consultants and consultants, and second rounds with managers and principals. In final rounds, you will meet with two senior staff members. The bulk of your interviews will focus on Bain cases. Your interviewer will present a short business problem and ask you to structure it and recommend a practical solution.

Your interview may begin with an opportunity to share your achievements and future goals. You should also have time at the end to ask your interviewer questions.
