Rowe Elementary Charter school
In early 2008 Bain joined forces with Northwestern University Settlement House (NUSH, a community-based organization in Chicago) to create a new charter grammar school to serve low-income, minority students in grades K-8 from the West Town community and across Chicago.

In the spring of 2007, the Bain Chicago partner group decided to investigate the potential to open a school. Office involvement started with "Extra 10%" managers, consultants, ACs and administrative staff who researched school options and identified NUSH as a partner. Bain Chicago then committed a dedicated case team to develop a business plan. After extensive research on national best practices in urban elementary education, and multiple application rounds and interviews, our school proposal was approved by the Chicago Board of Education in October 2008. A dedicated case team then supported start-up execution through spring 2009.

Rowe Elementary School opened its doors to 147 scholars in grades K-2 on September 8, 2009. Bain Chicago continues to support the principal and leadership teams in several ways: serving on the board, volunteering at the school and providing strategic support.

Inspire
Founded in 1998 by Bain and Monitor Associate Consultants, Inspire is a national volunteer organization that provides management consulting advice to non-profit organizations with a youth-oriented, education focus. Over the past 11 years, Inspire has grown into a 501(c)(3) organization with a volunteer base of more than 250 junior consultants (pre-MBA) from Bain & Company in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles along with The Monitor Group, The Parthenon Group and L.E.K. Consulting.

In addition to providing high quality counsel to leaders of educational nonprofits, Inspire also provides professional development opportunities to young management consultants. The cases are designed, managed, and executed entirely by ACs at all member firms. It has proven an excellent opportunity to give back to the community, while further developing the consulting skill set.
