Why Consulting?
Without prior work experience, consulting seemed to be the place where I could learn about most industries in a short period of time. A regular change of focus promised to keep me from being bored - instead, it ensured I am regularly challenged and forced to learn something new.
Why Bain?
Bainies are the essence of 'Work Hard - Play Hard'. I continue to be amazed at the talent in the company—and how much fun they are. The amount of training and support you get from the company, as well as the level of interest it shows in your overall well-being, just makes Bain a really good firm to work for.
A memorable experience at Bain.
Two months after receiving my Bain offer, I mistakenly emailed a partner with the salutation "Dude". The rest of the email was in a similar tone. Luckily for me, he took it in good humor.
How is Bain India office unique?
The Mumbai office is small enough that everyone knows everyone else. Since the office is still in the nascent stages, there's ample opportunity for one to be involved in building the office.
Interests outside work.
I've read every major author of fantastic fiction, and even completed a term project on ideas in fantastic literature. I enjoy theatre, on both sides of the curtain. I've recently started taking an interest in photography.
Advice for prospective applicants.
Interact with Bainies to ensure you have a good understanding of the firm culture. Figure out your reasons for wanting to join Bain , and make sure you are convinced by them. While doing mock case interviews, make sure you internalize the feedback given by peers and seniors. And remember to enjoy the interviews - they will be fun!
