What is your background pre-Bain? And what is your
current role at Bain and how long have you been
here?
I am an Associate Consultant and I joined Bain six months ago after
graduating from the London School of Economics with an MSc in
Finance. Prior to that, I completed my undergraduate studies at the
Rotterdam School of Management, including an exchange semester at
Wharton, University of Pennsylvania. I have gained work experience
during internships in consulting, banking and private equity, as
well as my own start-up business in Rotterdam.
How would you describe your role at Bain? What have been
your most memorable case experiences? What are the results
(client-related as well as internal) of which you are most
proud?
No two case experiences are alike. However, the responsibilities of
an Associate Consultant would typically include research, data
analysis, presentation of results and Excel modelling. It is also
much appreciated if you are pro-active, energetic and take care of
case team logistics, as well as organising social team events
(dinners, sight-seeing trips on a travel case, go-kart races
etc).
Looking back, my very first case was certainly a highlight as we
worked on restructuring a major financial institution with
consultants from five Bain offices. It was an unusually large
project where I learned a great deal, established some invaluable
relationships and also had a lot of fun. In addition, another case,
based in Moscow, was a great opportunity to learn about the oil and
gas industry, work with my Russian colleagues and experience the
coldest winter in years!
I find it incredibly rewarding to see the impact of my work. I was
very proud the first time I saw my slides presented at our client's
board meeting. Recently, I prepared a banking sector analysis for a
southern European country, which has gained attention from the top
level management of financial institutions. We have performance
reviews after each case which I find very motivating - the
positive, constructive feedback has inspired me to work harder and
continue my self-development.
Outside of my case work, I will always remember our global
Associate Consultant training in the US where I pushed my
boundaries for hard work while having so much fun and meeting
fellow Associate Consultants and trainers from around the
world.
Finally, tell us three interesting facts about yourself/
your interests outside of work.
Up until recently, I was probably the only Latvian in the global
Bain network. A fellow consultant joined the London office two
weeks ago!
I am 6'6" tall, speak four languages and have a twin brother
Outside work, I am a keen traveller, regularly play sports and I
am also always open to extreme adventures - be it sky-diving,
bungee jumping, snowboarding or anything else
