Alastair
Associate Consultant,
London
What is your background pre-Bain? And what is your
current role at Bain and how long have you been
here?
Before Bain, I studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University.
After graduation, I worked in teaching and consulting in the UK and
then in environmental sustainability in India, before joining Bain
in September 2010, where I am an Associate Consultant.
How would you describe your role at Bain? What have been
your most memorable case experiences? What are the results
(client-related as well as internal) of which you are most
proud?
My role is to support the team by researching information on
companies and markets, constructing data models and creating
presentations, which in turn helps us answer and solve the client's
issues.
My first case involved calculating the carbon footprint of a
company. It was great to not only work in a sector in which I am
extremely interested but also to help the company look at ways to
reduce both their energy usage and their environmental impact.
Finally, tell us three interesting facts about yourself/
your interests outside of work.
1. I'm a keen diver and have an advanced PADI diving qualification
up to 30m depths
2. I enjoy music and played the piano, cello and sang to Grade 6
standard
3. Outside of work, I enjoy playing and watching sport, especially
rugby union, rugby league and cricket
