A minor flaw in the chemical or marine drilling industries could lead to epic catastrophes. The very thought of applying Amazon or Uber's principals is frequently perceived as naïve, thus cementing a conviction that digitalization is largely hype rather than reality. However, companies must recognize that a combination of smart gadgets, energy saving technologies and cloud computations have impacted all types of business. It is only in the past five years that data generation has grown 40 times, while the number of connected devices has only quadrupled.
