AC interviews

Successful candidates applying for a role as an Associate Consultant in Bain SE Asia will participate in two stages of pre-screening tests, followed by four rounds of 45-minute case interviews. Progression to the next stage is dependent on candidate performance.

Written test (Pre-screening Test)
This is a 50-minute session, where applicants will be given an online test with 25 multiple choice questions. These questions will test you on your logical and analytical skills that are related to being a consultant.

One Way Video Interview (Pre-screening Test)
Applicants will assess an online link where they will have to record their responses to 3-4 questions. These questions will test you on your answer-first approach, framework and communication skills.

Case Interviews
Case interviews entail a discussion of an actual Bain case, so you will gain some insights into what it is like to work at Bain. For this portion of the interviews, you will be presented with a short business problem and then asked to structure the problem and recommend a practical solution. We encourage you to prepare for your case interviews.

During the case interview, your interviewer may ask traditional resume and behavioral questions, as well as questions about a mini-case based on your experiences, to better understand you and your interest in Bain.

Your interview may also kick off with an opportunity to share your achievements and future goals. You should also have time at the end to ask your interviewer questions.

First and second round
The first and second round of interviews will consist of two 45-minute case interviews. The interview typically kicks off with a short discussion of your achievements and future goals. For the case portion of the interviews, you will be presented with a short business problem and then asked to structure the problem and recommend a practical solution. Each round will conclude with an opportunity for you to ask questions. Progression to the next round is dependent on interview performance.

Third round
Candidates who successfully pass the second round will participate in a third round, which will consist of one written case interview. The goal of the written case is to provide you with an opportunity to better demonstrate your skills in a more real life situation. It will also give you a better understanding of the day-to-day role of a Bain consultant by simulating our work process. Bain will provide you with 20 to 30 slides that describe a client situation and ask key questions pertaining to the client. We will then give you 60 minutes to review the slides and prepare a short synopsis of your insights and recommendations before interview begins.
