Why Bain?
I was drawn to consulting because of the constant change and the
unparalleled learning opportunities that come with an ever-changing
role. My choice to work at Bain was driven by the people I met and
the relationships I developed over my summer internship. I've
always been impressed by the wealth of experience and success
stories I hear from bainies, from Kayaking through the Arctic, or
running their own small company - it's clear to me that these are
great people to learn from and be inspired by.
My passion at Bain and outside of the
office
I grew up living in a variety of countries abroad and travel has
been very important to me ever since. Bain is great about offering
opportunities for international experience. In Toronto, there is a
constant flux of office transfers either coming to Toronto or
heading to places like South Africa, Sweden, and Moscow.
My favorite (recent) case
I'm currently working on a merger integration in the airline
industry and I find it fascinating to learn the intricacies of how
both companies operate. I've also enjoyed getting to know the
clients and understanding how they think about their organization
and their vision for the future of the merged company.
My personal results story
My first case involved helping a large Canadian asset manager
develop a pricing strategy. Our analysis helped determine which
products were threatened by low-cost alternatives and should be
priced more competitively and which products could sustain a
premium price. My analysis directly impacted the CEO's decision to
drastically alter their pricing strategy, a move which may end up
redefining pricing in the Canadian asset management industry.
To play a part in influencing high-profile decision makers and
shaping the corporate strategy of a company so directly while at
such a junior level, is a privilege of working for Bain
My perspective on diversity at Bain
Bain brings together a diverse group of highly talented
individuals. The wealth of experiences in terms of cultural,
educational, scientific and business backgrounds brings different
frames of reference which inspire exciting and dynamic approaches
to solving problems. I'm always amazed at the ingenious and
imaginative solutions that bainies can come up with to obtain the
right data and drive some real and tangible results.
A final thought
If you're unsure about what firm is right for you, try and meet as
many people as you can. Finding the right 'fit' or culture is
personal and it comes down to the people you work with. One of the
reasons I know that Bain is a great fit for me is that I often
choose to see my colleagues outside of work - in a team room or
just hanging out, I have a lot of fun with the bainies I work
with.
