Christine is a manager in the Toronto office. She joined Bain
in 2001 after receiving her MBA from the Darden School, where she
received the William Michael Shermet Award for Academic Excellence
and the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence. A graduate of
Wilfrid Laurier University, Christine previously worked for Ernst
& Young as a manager in their international tax department.
Case experience
While at Bain, Christine has worked for clients primarily
in the private equity, retail, financial service, and service
industries. Her client work has included evaluating new retail
concept designs for a major North American retailer, improving
customer loyalty for a retail bank, various corporate strategy
initiatives, private equity diligence assignments, designing and
conducting customer research, as well as extensive financial
modeling.
"I love the excitement and challenge of working with our clients
to help them arrive at the right decision. I can look at my former
clients and see the impact of our work, through improved
operations, higher sales, a roll-out of a new concept, or sometimes
what you don't see: when they walk away from a strategy or
acquisition that did not make sense."
Choosing Bain
"The top two factors in selecting a company were the
ability for me to learn, and the people I would be working with.
Bain aced both aspects: all the people I met during the recruiting
process, from a variety of offices, were fantastic--interesting,
smart, and down to earth. And the learning process in consulting is
unparalleled--new industries, new clients, new case teams, all
supported by a fantastic network of people, experience sharing, and
training."
An opportunity to learn
"Bain's training programs continually exceed my expectations. I've
found the formal, global training to be well-timed and valuable. I
was impressed that Bain maintained the training budget during the
economic downturn, a time when it would have been easy to cut. I
can take the support systems we have for granted, until I remember
how well Bain's system stacks up against the experiences of my
former classmates in their organizations."
Work-life balance
Christine and her husband Tim have two young sons, Michael and
Oliver, and she took maternity leave following each of their
births. While currently working full-time, Christine has previously
worked at 60 percent and 80 percent allocations.
"Consulting has never been an easy career, given the nature of
client work and travel; however I have found Bain to be respectful
and supportive of my need to balance my career and my family."
