Consultant, Toronto

Bain recognizes that its employees are its greatest assets. double-quote-close

Grant is a consultant in the Toronto office. He studied at Queen's School of Business, and after his graduation spent a year as an assistant brand manager at a large American packaged foods company. In his short time at Bain, he has worked on cases in the mortgage and insurance industries.

Joining Bain
"I'm the kind of person who needs to be challenged and pushed every day--boredom is the enemy. At Bain, you won't be pushing through miles of red tape, filling out forms, or doing monthly reports. Every week I come into the office knowing I'll be learning about a new industry or learning a new skill. Bain is focused on generating results for clients, so you feel like you're working on something that will create value. That's tremendously satisfying."

Passionate people
"People at Bain are fun, down-to-earth, and worldly. There isn't a single person in the office who hasn't traveled overseas, or who isn't involved in some exciting extracurricular activity. We've got everything from ultramarathoners to aspiring musicians--it makes for a great environment."

Work-life balance
"I've been surprised by the work-life balance in the office. Bain recognizes that its employees are its greatest assets, and wants them to progress through to higher levels. Burning out employees just doesn't make good business sense, and that's evidenced by the high retention levels you see at Bain."

Career management
Grant plans to take full advantage of Bain's tuition and grad-school application systems: "For me, one of the biggest attractions to Bain was its willingness to support its staff on the way to grad school, which has always been a long-term dream of mine."
