Herbert is a partner in the Toronto office. He graduated from the Kellogg School of Management with a MBA. Prior to joining Bain, he earned his MA in economics from Queen's University and his Honours BA in financial economics from Bishop's University. In addition, he holds the Zwischenprüfung in mathematics from the Albert-Ludwigs University Freiburg, Germany. Herbert has been rewarded with a host of honours and awards for his academic achievements.

Herbert joined Bain in 1998 as an Associate Consultant. "I was fortunate to be in a position to choose from several offers. In the end, my wife and I were sold by the people of this great company - we found them to be energetic, down-to-earth, and we felt that each and everyone was empathetic to our personal needs as young parents. We have not been disappointed: Bain has been extraordinary in helping to find the balance between the life of a consultant and that of a father of (now!) three."

After 18 months in Toronto, Herbert transferred to the Sydney for six months. Upon his return, he was promoted to Senior Associate Consultant. A year later he was again promoted to Consultant. After 18 months in that role, Herbert joined Kellogg's one year MBA program, and upon graduating he returned to Bain as a Case Team Leader on client assignments for both the Chicago and Toronto offices.

Prior to joining Bain, Herbert gained experience in both Europe and North-America through several summer internships, which included working as a finance and accounting analysts for Fonorola (now Sprint Canada) in Montreal Canada, and as a procurement and production specialist for a Tier 2 automobile supplier in Germany. "I also succeeded as a young entrepreneur in the early '90s in the then newly deregulated telecommunications industry in Canada. My clients were alternative long-distance service providers and my marketing efforts led to penetration rates of up to 35% of residential households in Western Canada."

Since joining Bain in 1998, Herbert has worked with clients on corporate, turnaround, and growth strategies, cost reductions, as well as operational and sales force improvements. His client work in Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia has focused on telecommunications, pulp and paper, IT services, as well as companies in the manufacturing, retail, consumer products, and financial services industries - some of which involved due diligence efforts for private equity and corporate clients. "Bain offered a learning curve that appeared to be unparalleled: it is steep, broad, and does never decline."

"Bain has allowed me to thrive in a very demanding and fast-paced career and still be able to raise a family. The flexibility allows me to find a balance between clients requiring travel or being within proximity to my home in Toronto. My colleagues have also been willing to work around my schedule, which is driven by the demands three children ask from every parent. Bain people and the culture they represent are fascinating: we are so obsessed in helping our clients to achieve their greatest potential and yet we never stop finding time to have a good laugh!"
