Jed is a manager in the Toronto office. He graduated from
Queen's University in 2000, earning his bachelor of arts with
honors in economics. After graduation he attended the London School
of Economics where he earned an MSc in global market economics. Jed
then joined Bain London where he worked for three years. After his
promotion to consultant, Jed accepted a permanent transfer to
Toronto.
He has worked in numerous industries--everything from airlines
to newspapers to surgical gloves. He also spent a year in the
Private Equity group in London.
Training and support
"One of Bain's most impressive attributes is its willingness to
invest in its people. I have been a part of extensive training
sessions with my global peer group in Cape Cod, Cancun, and
Miami--and that's not to mention all the local training I've had.
Perhaps most impressively, beyond the formal training, there is a
real culture of support among all the staff. Bain's policy of
promoting people who are qualified (irrespective of the size of the
class) means it is in everyone's best interest to help each other
out."
Work-life balance
"Strategy consulting is not a job for people looking to
work 9 to 5. That said, everyone at Bain is very conscious of
work-life balance. I remember after a busy start to my first case
at Bain (as a very junior associate consultant) I approached my
manager and said, 'This lifestyle is simply not sustainable, there
has to be a better way.' He was very receptive and was able to
juggle deadlines in such a way that my hours came back under
control."
Outside the office
In his free time, Jed plays soccer, ball hockey, and all racquet
sports. He can often (perhaps too often) be found playing ping pong
in the office.
