Why Bain?

When I first chose Bain it was for the people: I couldn't imagine a better group of individuals to work with - they're crazy smart, but very down to earth. It's great to be able to learn from and joke with the people you work with. Since then, I've come to appreciate the amazing variety of client exposure Bain affords its consultants and the level of importance Bain places on training.

My passion at Bain and outside of the office

I love the level of collegiality in the Bain Toronto office - it's full of driven people, but is a very laid back environment. I've been able to get involved in planning a ton of office programs and events, which have been a great way to get to know my colleague. Outside of work I'm an avid skier and golfer, and regularly hit the slopes / links with both Bain and non-Bain friends.

My favorite (recent) case

My favourite recent case was tech-telecom client I worked on last year. Bain's worked with this client for over two years, touching all parts of it business. Working with them for almost a year, I was able to really get to know the clients, developing a lot of personal connections. Seeing how our work impacted the client over the long term - increased stock price, higher margins, and faster growth - was a hugely rewarding experience. It's something the whole team is really proud of!

My personal results story

I had the chance recently to work directly with the senior leadership of a mid-size tech telecom company to assist in articulating their strategic plan. I worked fairly closely with individuals in their finance, marketing, & business development group to understand how their strategic plan would ultimately be implemented and what that meant from a financial point of view. Ultimately we worked directly with the CEO and CFO to prepare the materials for a board meeting. It was a great chance to work directly with senior leaders and get an insiders view of how the strategic planning process works in large companies.

My perspective on diversity at Bain

One thing that continues to amaze me about Bain is the incredible diversity of my colleagues. Everyone brings a unique background and set of experiences to the table. Whether it's unique talents, broad travels, athletic skills, the ability to speak multiple languages, or just a great sense of humour, I've learned something unique from everyone I've worked with.

A final thought

One of the things that we say about Bainees is that we take our work seriously, but not ourselves. I can absolutely say that's true of every Bainee I've met, irrespective of tenure, office, or background. It truly is the people that makes this such a special place to work.
