Why Bain?

I was interested in consulting because of the diversity of experiences available, both in terms of the different problems and industries you're exposed to and in terms of your role on a case. For me, Bain was an obvious choice - not only did their client- and results-focused approach resonate with me, but it was clear from the start that the people were people I wanted to work with. Everyone was super smart, friendly, and supportive - not only were they genuinely committed to seeing you succeed, they were also a lot of fun.

My passion at Bain and outside of the office

I love traveling, volunteering, and languages and a Bain opportunity allowed me to combine my passion for all three. I was offered the option of doing a Bain-sponsored volunteer internship before starting at Bain with the not-for-profit organization of my choice, anywhere in the world. I chose to go to Bolivia for three months and worked for a microfinance organization that targeted small and medium sized businesses. There, I led a project exploring the marketing support they offered their borrowers and investigating the feasibility of introducing a catalogue order system for their borrowers' products. It was an amazing experience - the work was really interesting and as a bonus, I also got to learn Spanish, meet a lot of interesting people, and explore some phenomenal places in South America.

My favorite (recent) case

I am currently doing work for a chemical company, helping them redesign and improve their selling process so that they can deliver on their market strategy and implement the changes necessary for success. Bain's commitment to client collaboration has been really evident - our clients are the ones who "own" the project and our role is to do the thinking to advise and empower them. The experience has taught me a lot about managing people and mobilizing change in an organization.

My perspective on diversity at Bain

Bain definitely has a commitment to diversity, which is evident in both the people who work here and the diversity groups and activities that Bain supports. Not only that, Bain also encourages and supports transfers and externships, to further increase one's exposure to different places, cultures, business models, and whatever else. I have been continually impressed by the range of experiences and perspectives that people have brought to Bain, and to me, it's definitely had a positive impact on both the workplace and the work we do.

A final thought

Working at Bain has really reinforced for me how important it is to surround yourself with good people. The people I've met at Bain are smart and talented - but also humble, and their commitment to their work and to helping others develop themselves is really what's made the experience stand out for me.
