Bain has formalized industry and capability “Practices” that are integral to how Bain wins and delivers results to its clients. Together they form our Product, Practice, and Knowledge ("PPK") team. The role of a Practice is to drive growth for Bain in a particular industry or capability together with offices, and boost Bain’s expertise and commercial excellence.
The Strategy & Transformation Practice is one of the largest practices at Bain, and at the heart of some of our biggest client success stories. We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation, with new hooks, points of view, products, tools and delivery models that bring together the best thinking from our most successful client heads and senior strategists, to stretch our client’s definition of full potential, embed change within their organizations, and deliver results. The Strategy & Transformation Practice team works very closely with partners, senior managers and teams to bring Bain’s best experience and the latest tools and innovations to bear across sectors and offices. They are integral in helping Bain win new cases and advising our case teams on difficult strategy and transformation questions.
The Strategy Practice Consultant role is part of our Business & Corporate Strategy solution team, which consists of two Global Solution Leaders, a Global Solution & IP VP, a Practice Director, a Solution Technical Product Manager, a Solution Innovation Practice Senior Manager, multiple Practice Managers, Consultants and BCN who collectively manage the overall solution IP, IP/tool development, and commercial deployment, and a knowledge management team. The role focuses on turning our Bain IP and differentiated capabilities into practical, high-impact approaches and AI-enabled tools (housed within the “Full Potential Co-Pilot” suite of S&T tools) for frontline partners and strategy case teams. You will be helping Bain stay at the forefront of innovation, harnessing technology to enhance the way we solve strategic business problems.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Strategy Practice Consultant role is a critical one for the Strategy & Transformation Practice, supporting Strategy product and IP development and deployment, and client and case team support. The individual will help drive our solution modernization efforts, with a focus on the development of innovative technology solutions that embed into the Strategy solutions, working closely with the rest of the practice team and others innovating on AI tools within Bain.
1) Solution Incubation: Help discover, prototype, and scale high-value tools as part of the Full Potential Co-Pilot suite of S&T-driven use cases
- Identify and prioritize opportunities for AI modules for prototyping through frontline learnings
- Help translate IP and business logic into prototypes of proprietary tools to be tested using no/low-code platforms (e.g., Claude skills); evaluate outputs and iterate on tools, in partnership with Solution Innovation SM
- Work with the solution team to continuously evolve all S&T-owned modules (prompts, data calls, guardrails, etc.) based on ongoing evals and pattern recognition from frontline use
- Collaborate with Knowledge Management team to curate and harness “citizen innovation” that happens within Strategy case teams, integrating high value tools into the standard workflow / platform for reuse across Bain
2) Tool Deployment / Team Support: Work with practice team to embed AI tools and insights into case team engagements
- Support high-priority Strategy pitches with cutting-edge AI insights
- Partner with case teams to weave AI tools into live engagements from day one
- Identify case team innovations that should be scaled
- Track usage and outcome metrics and circulate best practices across case teams
3) Marketing and Training: Help drive firm-wide awareness and adoption of Strategy tools and innovation
- Work with solution team to embed tools into Strategy approach, core IP collateral, Iris/Sage
- Lead hands-on trainings to boost adoption and confidence across Bain’s Strategy General Consulting staff and Practice team
- Create demo videos, one-pagers and pitch decks to market the practice’s tools
- Maintain usage dashboards and success stories
4) Solution Innovation Strategy: Help shape the vision, priorities, and roadmap for solution innovation, working closely with the Solution Innovation SM, Global Solution Leaders, Global Solution and IP VP, Solution Technical Product Manager and other key stakeholders
- Help coordinate collaboration efforts with key stakeholders and resource groups across Bain including the Core Innovation Team, Vector, Umbrage, BCN/BCN Labs, Modernize Bain and S&T Leadership
- Conduct ongoing research to monitor competitor offerings and tech/AI advancements and translate into insights that inform product roadmap and investment decisions
ABOUT YOU
- 5-8 years technical product development experience in a similar industry with an undergraduate degree OR 4-5 years experience with MBA/Master’s OR MBB consulting experience at the Senior Associate or Consultant level OR Senior Consultant Level at other management consulting firms
- Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and tools (e.g., Python, R, OpenAI APIs), and extensive experience building AI-enabled tools that create business value
- Analytical and problem- solving skills and expertise to push insights to conclusive recommendations
- Ability to effectively drive a piece of work end-to-end with limited direction
- Continuously learns from one experience to another and makes thoughtful recommendations on improvements
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English Language at a C1 level
- Structures and design impactful slides and written updates; can clearly communicate insights and implications of work to senior stakeholders at the right level of detail
- Steer and direct highly effective small meetings; participates in meetings with more senior stakeholders and appropriately shares opinion
- Track record of inspiring, motivating, and apprenticing junior team members
- Flexibility to work outside usual business hours to accommodate for the global nature of the role working across timezones
