Franz-Robert Klingan

Dr. Franz-Robert Klingan is the head of our Energy & Natural Resources practice for the German-speaking regions and is also a member of our Private Equity and Healthcare practices. In addition, he leads our business in Austria as the head of the Vienna office.

Franz-Robert has over 25 years of experience in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and management consulting, collaborating with multinational client teams and investors to achieve sustainable results and superior returns.

Previously, he built and led the healthcare sector in our Private Equity business for nearly 10 years. Franz-Robert has applied his consulting expertise globally within Bain. Between 2002 and 2006, he served clients from our Boston office, then from Munich between 2007 and 2021, and since 2022, he has overseen the Vienna office.

Prior to joining us in 2000, Franz-Robert worked in the industry as a Technology Transfer Manager for large-scale projects and alliances, as well as a Production Plant Manager. He began his career at Hoechst AG (now Sanofi SA).

He completed his studies in chemistry with distinction at the Technical University of Munich, where he also earned a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) with the highest honors. Outside of client work, he is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Technical University of Munich's University Foundation, a private angel investor, and the father of two adult children.
