Senior Specialist, Research and Data Services (TMT - Telecom, Media and Technology role)

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You’ll join Bain’s Research and Data Services team in Milan, supporting consulting teams and internal stakeholders with high-quality business research and data services. You’ll work across Bain’s practice areas, with a primary focus on Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT), and collaborate with colleagues and experts across local, regional, and global teams.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

As a Senior Specialist, Research and Data Services, you’ll provide desktop research and data services support across short- to medium-term projects. You’ll apply your knowledge of relevant research resources to help teams answer complex business questions, with a particular focus on TMT.

This is an individual contributor role in which you’ll manage your own deliverables with limited oversight, support research planning and execution, and help capture and share research experience across the team. You’ll also contribute to asset-building, training, and service improvements that help our team continue to grow and evolve.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Conduct business research using desktop resources, business databases, and other research tools to support project teams and internal stakeholders.
• Work proactively with internal customers to understand project context, clarify information needs, and deliver accurate and comprehensive research outputs.
• Develop and deepen your knowledge of TMT through project work, training, and collaboration with Bain experts.
• Contribute as an active member of an industry team, supporting complex and specialized research while also conducting general research across Bain’s areas of interest.
• Apply local, regional, and global data sources effectively, including general business resources and industry- or capability-specific tools.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, gather feedback on research outputs, and help resolve research-related questions or issues.
• Support asset-building activities, including processing orders and new acquisitions, cataloging, serials check-in, end-user system updates, circulation tracking, and ongoing maintenance of department assets.
• Participate in knowledge sharing, training, product and service evaluations, process improvements, and tool innovation initiatives.
• Conduct just-in-time and group training for researchers, consulting teams, and consulting support staff as needed.
• Lead small-scale initiatives and, from time to time, coach less experienced colleagues.

ABOUT YOU

• You have experience conducting business research, competitive or market intelligence, or information services in a fast-paced consulting, market research, professional services, or equivalent environment.
• Previous experience in TMT is welcome but not required. You’re curious about these sectors and motivated to build your expertise over time.
• Experience using business research databases such as Factiva, LSEG, S&P Capital IQ, or similar tools would be beneficial.
• You bring strong knowledge across a broad range of commercial, multi-industry, and economic topics, along with the ability to build expertise in assigned areas.
• You communicate fluently, both verbally and in writing, in English and your native language.
• You’re highly organized, able to prioritize effectively, manage your time well, and perform under pressure.
• You’re enthusiastic, dedicated, and committed to delivering high-quality results.
• You have experience working effectively with diverse stakeholders and across cultures.
• You proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency and ways of working.
• You bring a growth mindset and are comfortable adapting as the role evolves through new technology enablement.
• You hold a degree in Information Science, business, or an equivalent higher education qualification.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

In accordance with applicable Italian pay transparency requirements, Bain & Company provides information regarding the compensation applicable to this position.

The annualized base salary range for this role in Italy is €39,250 - €47,000 gross per year.

This compensation information has been determined based on objective and gender-neutral criteria and reflects the compensation normally applicable to the position at the time of publication. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities associated with the role.

Variable Compensation:

This role is eligible for an annual performance bonus of up to 7% of base salary. Bonus awards are discretionary and actual bonus outcomes depend on individual and firm performance.
