2022

29 September 2022 — We note National Treasury’s decision to restrict Bain SA from any public sector work for 10 years effective September 2022 based our work with SARS which ended in 2017. We disagree with the ban and are considering our options in response to this decision. Read more

18 January 2022 After careful consideration, Bain South Africa has decided to withdraw its membership in Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA). Our membership should not distract from the important work BLSA does on behalf of the business community for the good of South Africa. We are deeply sorry for any role that our work may have inadvertently played in what transpired at SARS. Bain is committed to operating with integrity, meeting the high standards our clients expect and making a positive contribution to South Africa. Read more

5 January 2022 —Bain & Company notes the findings of Part I of the Zondo Commission’s report. While we remain supportive of the Commission and its work, we are disappointed that Part I of the Commission’s report mischaracterizes Bain’s role at SARS. Bain has offered full cooperation to enforcement authorities and will continue to do so. Read more

 

2021

31 March 2021 — Bain categorically denies it intentionally supported state capture in any way, or purposely withheld any relevant information from the authorities. Recent allegations by Mr Athol Williams, which are rooted in speculation and opinion, cover no new ground and offer no new facts beyond those already disclosed. While we remain deeply sorry for any role that our work may have inadvertently played in what transpired at SARS, Bain is committed to operating with integrity, meeting the high standards our clients expect and making a positive contribution to South Africa.  Read more

 

2019

20 December 2019 — Bain & Company rejects Mr Athol Williams’ latest assertions against the firm and we vehemently deny that we were not transparent with him about the findings from our internal investigation or withheld material information from him. We have acknowledged that we made mistakes in our work at SARS, but the firm had no motive, monetary or otherwise, to damage SARS. Bain’s focus continues to be on implementing our remedy plan and to make ongoing positive contributions to the South African people and South African society. Read more

18 November 2019 — Earlier today in testimony given by Lord Peter Hain to the State Capture Commission, Lord Hain attributed actions to Bain & Company that he acknowledged in his evidence are not based on any personal knowledge of the facts. Read more

21 October 2019 — In late August, Athol Williams made Bain & Company aware of his decision to leave the firm before the end of 2019 in order to refocus on his PhD studies and his lecturing responsibilities. Read more

25 June 2019 Through the Nugent Commission of Inquiry last year it became evident that Bain & Company’s involvement with SARS beginning in 2015 was a failure, for SARS, South Africa, and Bain. Read more

10 September 2018 — Bain & Company prides itself on helping our clients achieve sustainable results. Our work on the organization structure at SARS did not achieve this and we are deeply troubled by the pain suffered by employees of SARS and their families. We have acknowledged that we made mistakes in our work at SARS, but the firm had no motive, monetary or otherwise, to damage SARS.
