Global Digital practice co-leader; Head of Bain Innovation Exchange; Expert in technology, private equity and consumer work
Elizabeth Spaulding is the co-leader of Bain & Company's global Digital practice, based in the firm's San Francisco office. She supports clients in digital transformations, with a particular focus on consumer businesses from retail to consumer tech, and leads Bain's internal efforts in continually evolving and growing new capabilities and partnerships to serve clients in technology-led transformations.
Elizabeth began her career at Bain in 1998 and has significant experience with both public and private equity owned businesses. Since taking on the leadership role of the digital practice in 2014, she now advises clients on a range of issues related to digital disruption, including reinvention of the customer experience, marketing, innovation in operations including automation and predictive analytics, as well as helping develop new products and services.
Elizabeth founded and leads ADAPT (Advanced Digital and Product Team), the firm's technical team of digital experts that work hand-in-hand with consulting case teams and includes S/W engineering, user design and prototyping, innovation and design thinking, and marketing analytics.
She also seeks to build connections between clients and digital leaders to help develop the capabilities needed to win in a digital economy. She created the Bain Innovation Exchange that connects clients with venture capitalists, startups and major tech platforms. Examples of these relationships include the Stanford d.school, Facebook, CrunchBase and various venture capitalists and their portfolio companies.
A highly sought-after expert on digital transformations as well as new and emerging trends, Elizabeth's perspectives have been quoted and published by national and international business media, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Business of Fashion, The Los Angeles Times and Harvard Business Review.
Outside of her client work, Elizabeth plays a leadership role in Bain's pro bono efforts with charter schools such as KIPP. She is also partnering with The Bridgespan Group on a forthcoming effort aimed at harnessing digital innovation in the social impact sector.
Elizabeth received her MBA as an Arjay Miller Scholar from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BAS in industrial engineering and French from Stanford University.
Elizabeth is on the board of Cardinal Analytx, a machine learning startup, focused on reducing the cost of healthcare, and founded by two Stanford professors.
