Harald Harvey is a senior advisor with Bain & Company, based in Lagos and Johannesburg.
Drawing on more than 25 years of experience as a leader in civil society, government, corporate and strategic management consulting across multiple industries and geographies, Harald brings uniquely diverse and global perspectives and experience to his clients.
Harald's client-service focus is on beverages, consumer goods, consumer-facing industries, transport and logistics, agriculture and the public sector. He holds deep expertise in issues relating to corporate and competitive strategy, portfolio strategy, brand strategy, marketing and commercial strategy implementation, route-to-market development, sales force effectiveness, profitable revenue growth management and pricing, innovation, complexity management, supply chain, organizational transformation and people capabilities. He also has extensive experience in the intersection of the public and private sectors working on issues of regulatory strategy, shared value, economic development, competitiveness and institutional transformation.
Prior to joining Bain in 2016, Harald held a number of leadership positions at other leading global strategic advisory firms. He was also Managing Director of SABMiller Asia and Executive Director: Strategy and Business Support at The South African Breweries Ltd, the South African subsidiary of SABMiller PLC. In addition, he was the Deputy Director-General of South Africa's National Department of Transport, where he led the process of fundamentally reinventing the national transport strategy dubbed "Moving South Africa" and restructuring the institutional landscape. He joined the Department of Transport after serving 10 years in the labour movement, the majority of which as a senior office-bearer and Deputy General Secretary in the COSATU-affiliated Transport & General Workers Union.
Harald holds a B.Soc.Sc and B.Soc.Sc. (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Cape Town.
