Power-purchase agreements are long-term contracts to buy electricity from a project developer.

"PPAs are an essential component and underpin almost all renewables development in the country," said Aaron Derman, head of the Americas utilities and renewables practice at consulting firm Bain & Co. "Broadly speaking, we believe barriers that have prevented penetration of renewables have been and will continue to come down rapidly over the coming years."
