Share your journey to Bain.
Before joining Bain, I received my PhD in biomedical engineering at Yale. In graduate school I was able to participate in extracurricular activities and internships and was exposed to teaching, mentoring, entrepreneurship, science policy, and more. From these experiences I realized that I wanted a career that prioritized problem solving, learning, and mentorship.
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
I was drawn to Bain because I knew I would be able to explore a wide variety of industries and capabilities. Prior to joining the firm I’d only focused on science, and I wanted to broaden my aperture. I was also drawn to the people at the firm. Everyone I met throughout the recruiting and interview process seemed genuine and shared examples of personal and professional support they received from their teams and Bain. It was clear that the people here really care about one another.
Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?
I'm invested in the success of the people I work with and get excited by helping others. This includes both the colleagues that I mentor and the clients that we team with. We work closely with our clients and it's fun brainstorming with them, coaching them, and helping them make important decisions. I get excited when I see the real-world impact that our work can have, and I feel proud when I see that companies are changing for the better and driving results based on the work that our team did.
“Build Your Own Bain” means creating a thriving career on your own terms. How have you been able to “Build Your Own Bain?”
I love that Bain offers a lot of options and flexibility to make this career work over the long term. I've had 2 children since joining Bain and was able to take advantage of the amazing parental leave benefits. While I was pregnant with my second child, I switched to a part time work model and was able to continue doing the client-facing work I love in an 80% capacity. I love that Bain offers this as an option. I don't know of any other companies that allow you to flex your work model up and down at different stages of life while staying on track for career advancement.

The staffing team really values and considers your personal preferences when making staffing decisions. I’ve been able to explore many of my interests (and learn about some new ones, too!) in my case work. One of my favorite cases so far was a portfolio strategy case with an advanced management systems client. The work was fun and interesting, the team was awesome, and we’ve seen them make major portfolio decisions based on our recommendations. I also loved working on a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) case for a private equity company. Not only did we help them shape their DEI goals and support infrastructure for their entire portfolio of companies, but we also partnered directly with one of the portfolio companies to test and refine the tools we put together.
