Jon Barfield is a member of Bain's Healthcare & Life Sciences, Private Equity and Social Impact practices. Jon is the founder and current head of Bain's Racial Equity and Social Justice pillar within the Social Impact practice. He has over 10 years of management consulting experience.
Jon works extensively with corporate healthcare clients across sub-sectors, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products and services, medtech and healthcare IT. He has deep experience advising clients across topics, including enterprise and business unit strategy, performance improvement and operating model.
Jon advises private equity funds and other financial sponsors across the lifecycle of their deals. He has expertise in commercial and operational due diligence, as well as post-acquisition value creation with a focus on growth strategy and performance improvement. He has a particular focus on investments in healthcare, with deep expertise in pharma services, healthcare IT and innovative healthcare services.
As the leader of Bain's Racial Equity and Social Justice pillar, Jon is responsible for deploying Bain's commitment of $100M in pro bono consulting services to mission driven organizations over five years. He has led and sponsored work with clients focused on closing the racial wealth gap, health equity, civil rights and gender equity.
Prior to joining Bain, Jon worked in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers / Barclays Capital. His work focused on advising global and innovative technology clients on equity financing and M&A opportunities.
He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College.
