About Stephen

Stephen Bertrand is a member of our Technology practice. He formerly served as our Amsterdam managing partner.

Stephen advises clients on corporate and business unit strategy, cost reduction, cost management, sales force effectiveness, pricing and organizational design across a range of telecommunications and technology sectors. He has deep expertise in multi-year transformations and turnarounds of large, complex global businesses. 

Additionally, he works closely with our private equity clients, leading due diligences and engagements with portfolio companies.

His research on the telecommunications and technology sectors has been profiled in the Financial Times, Banking Business Review and local trade and business publications across Europe and Asia. He is also the co-author of several reports on mobile and cloud technologies, including, "Mobile payments: Finally ready to take off?," "Selling the cloud," and "The five faces of the cloud."

Stephen joined Bain in 1998 and has worked in the firm's London, San Francisco and Sydney offices. Prior to that, he held several information systems management positions in the banking industry in Canada and Bermuda.

He earned his MBA from the University of Western Ontario, graduating as the gold medalist. He also holds an MSc and BSc (Hon.) in molecular biology from the University of Ottawa, graduating magna cum laude.
