BAIN & COMPANY’S ELIZABETH SPAULDING NAMED TO CONSULTING MAGAZINE’S 2016 ‘WOMEN LEADERS IN CONSULTING’ LIST

Spaulding founded and heads Bain’s global Digital Practice, which has experienced four-fold growth under her leadership

New York — Nov. 9, 2016 — Elizabeth Spaulding, founder and global head of Bain & Company’s global Digital Practice, has been recognized by Consulting magazine as one of its 2016 Women Leaders in Consulting. Spaulding, who is honored with the Excellence in Leadership Award, has led the growth of the firm’s digital capabilities as Bain clients look for ways to use digital technology to transform their businesses. Bain Digital is a firm-wide priority with the full weight of the firm’s senior leaders behind it.

Under Spaulding, who is based in the firm’s San Francisco office, Bain Digital has developed a truly differentiated perspective, which has helped to quadruple the percent of Bain cases that include a digital component.

While digital transformation is often treated as a separate and distinct capability, one or two steps removed from the businesses core, the Digital Practice infuses a ‘digital inside’ mindset at Bain. This means integrating digital into nearly every aspect of the firm’s broader transformation work with clients – from customer experience to supply chain optimization.

As part of this approach, Spaulding and her team established digital ‘hubs’ in Bain’s Americas, EMEA and APAC regions. These hubs pair the firm’s digital leaders with experts in each of its nine industry practice areas to help better ‘connect the digital dots’ between industries, incubate and accelerate innovations, and share key learnings.

The practice has also amplified firm’s digital ecosystem by developing strategic third-party partnerships. These partnerships provide clients with Bain’s expertise as well as the specialized experience of others outside the firm – an integrated solution that will be essential as the pace of innovation continues to accelerate. This year alone, the Digital Practice has hosted more than 40 client organizations in a series of workshops and collaboration sessions involving the venture and start-up communities.

“Congratulations to Elizabeth on this well-deserved acknowledgement,” said Russ Hagey, Bain’s Chief Talent Officer. “The Digital Practice has been integral in leading our clients through complex digital transformations to help them deliver on their key business strategies, better serve customers and operate more efficiently and cost effectively. We are thrilled that Elizabeth’s leadership and these successes have been recognized by the broader consulting industry.”

Spaulding has been widely quoted on digital trends by national and international business media, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Business of Fashion, The Los Angeles Times, and Harvard Business Review.

Outside of her client work, she plays a leadership role in Bain’s pro bono efforts with charter schools, such as KIPP. She is also partnering with The Bridgespan Group on a forthcoming effort aimed at harnessing digital innovation in the social impact sector.

Spaulding joined Bain in 1998 and has worked extensively with the firm’s Private Equity practice. She is also a member of Bain’s Education practice.

She earned her MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business as an Arjay Miller Scholar, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in industrial engineering and French.

Spaulding and her fellow honorees will be recognized at an awards gala on Nov. 17 in New York. Coverage of the honorees and the event will appear in Consulting magazine’s December issue (www.consultingmag.com). Consulting is published by ALM, a global leader in specialized industry news and information.
