About Ken

A seasoned entrepreneur in the Japanese investment industry, Ken Shibusawa joined Bain in 2023.

After gaining financial market experience in the late 1980s and through 1990s at JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and Moore Capital, Ken founded Shibusawa and Company, Inc. in 2001, a strategic advisory firm for alternative investments, ESG/SDGs alignment and human resource development. In 2008, he also founded Commons Asset Management, a mutual fund dedicated to delivering long term investment opportunities to the Japanese household. In 2021, he joined Brunswick Group as a senior advisor.

In 2022, Ken was named as a board member of the newly founded International Foundation for Valuing Impact, as a special advisor to the ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Boards) chair. In 2023, he founded &Capital, Inc., an impact fund management company for Africa. Most recently, he was named as co-head of Triple I (Impact Investment Initiative) for Global Health.

Additionally, Ken is a trustee and co-chairperson of the Global South-Africa Committee of Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives), an advisor to the Office of the President at the University of Tokyo, a member of various government panels, including Prime Minister Kishida’s Council on New Capitalism, and a steering group member of UNDP SDG Impact.

Ken received his MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management , as well as his BS in chemical engineering from the University of Texas.
