I started my career as a tax advisor at an accounting firm. After a role in the energy sector, I was ready for a new challenge and joined Bain.
“Build Your Own Bain” means creating a thriving career on your own terms. How have you been able to “Build Your Own Bain?”
I get involved in as many social activities as I can. I’m fueled by positive human interaction, and to nurture myself, I need to actively cultivate those relationships and experiences. There is no shortage of that at Bain.
How are you able to apply your unique skillsets at Bain?
Curiosity is one of my greatest strengths. It shows up in different ways. I ask questions without hesitation and challenge conventional thinking. During the recruiting process, I used this mindset to engage my interviewers by asking how well my approach would translate to case work. It sparked great conversations and led to helpful, immediate feedback.
On my case teams, I’ve learned that it’s okay not to know everything. What matters is showing a genuine interest in learning. That proactive attitude is noticed and appreciated by supervisors and leadership alike. As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to present to senior leaders and grow significantly in a short period of time.
What differentiates Bain from working at other companies and industries?
It’s often said that employees define a workplace. That is certainly true at Bain. I’m constantly amazed by the brilliance of the people I work with, even during team games. But what really stands out is how down to earth everyone is. People don’t take themselves too seriously, and that creates a collaborative environment where the work is challenging and genuinely enjoyable.
Add to that the impact we create. There is something incredibly satisfying about seeing a presentation you helped design featured on a listed company’s website. That combination of impact and culture is what sets Bain apart.
Did you have any ties to London before joining? Why'd you choose this office? What is the local office culture like?
I grew up in East London (some might say Essex, but I’d challenge that), so Bain London was naturally the office I was drawn to. Since joining and learning more about opportunities to work in overseas offices, I’ve come to appreciate just how much flexibility and support Bain offers. It is something I may explore in the future.
The London office culture is fantastic, as I’m sure it is in many Bain offices. One thing that stood out to me is how everyone, regardless of level or tenure, is encouraged to get involved in recruiting. That means the people you meet during the application process are often the same people you’ll be working with. They genuinely want you to succeed, and that doesn’t stop once you join. While you are officially assigned one buddy, it truly feels like everyone is your buddy. That welcoming culture helps you bring your best self to work.
