WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
Pyxis is Bain’s alternative data & analytics arm acquired in 2019. We are an industry leading market intelligence firm that allows B2C firms (both Bain and non-Bain clients) understand their business using a combination of our best-in-class alternative data portfolio and Bain proprietary insights. Pyxis has seen tremendous revenue growth (>1200% from 2020), driven by sales to non-Bain clients and increasing usage rates among Bain teams (both GP and PEG). To further boost our growth, Pyxis is looking for support for its Commercial team.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
The Director, Commercial and Operations, will report to the Senior Director, Commercial & Operations, and be primarily responsible be primarily responsible for developing and executing Pyxis’ commercial strategy, including helping to launch and manage its rapidly growing SaaS subscription business.
A successful candidate will have outstanding project management and organizational skills developed at the Bain consulting track.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Internal strategy and execution (30%):
- Support strategy discussions with internal senior stakeholders, including Global Practice Leads, such as PEG and Retail
- Identify opportunities to increase Pyxis penetration in Bain offices across the world, for both PEG and GP use cases, by building relationships with key regional leadership members
- Liaise with Bain partners and practice heads to identify opportunities where Pyxis can provide support and define requirements to enable new ways of working
- Assess internal TAM for potential opportunities and drive alignment on prioritization, timing, and P&L implications for Pyxis
Go to market strategy and execution (30%):
- Identify opportunities for Pyxis commercialization globally among external clients (currently 0% of revenue and the biggest upside opportunity) and help drive sales with clients
- Identify unique data and analytical needs of external clients and work with the product and commercial team to integrate relevant features to broaden the applicability of the product offering.
- Assess competitive landscape and identify key competitive offerings
- Lead channel partnerships with data partners to drive external sales
- Refine the go-to-market strategy and execution plan for the Pyxis Insights Platform
- Identify priority accounts for each product type, and define account-based engagement strategy
- Develop client pitch materials in collaboration with the Pyxis Data Ops team
- Liaise with Bain partners to identify upsell opportunities via consulting engagements
- Partner with Pyxis leadership, Data, Engineering, and Product to manage end-to-end sales cycles
- Use CRM system to monitor and drive lead generation for our subscription pipeline
Internal business development (20%):
- Lead collaboration with EMEA-based Bain practices (e.g., Airlines, Luxury, Consumer Lab) on joint marketing efforts, such as co-authored IP materials, external practice newsletters
- Develop marketing and materials that specifically address EMEA consulting team needs
- Support coordination with FRWD, Bain Marketing and Practice areas on marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives
- Support marketing team in developing Pyxis sales collateral, website, social media and email marketing, and PR campaigns
Customer success (20%):
- Support onboarding, training and adoption of new clients
- Proactively maximize client NPS and relay product feedback to Product team
- Identify and convert renewals and upsell opportunities
ABOUT YOU
This role follows a hybrid model, requiring in-office presence at least 1 day per week..
- Experience leading enterprise-scale strategy, transformation, or operational excellence initiatives in a consulting firm or within a complex global organization, with experience comparable to the Senior Manager, Associate Partner, or equivalent leadership level.
- Exceptional project and program leadership skills, with the ability to drive multiple high-priority initiatives from strategy through execution in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams while independently managing competing priorities, making sound decisions in complex situations, and delivering results through others.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships and influence across functions, senior leadership, and diverse stakeholder groups in highly matrixed organizations, fostering alignment without direct authority.
- Outstanding executive communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decision-making, navigate complex conversations, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success managing complex external partner and vendor relationships (e.g., data providers, technology vendors, strategic service partners), driving accountability, resolving issues, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
- Strategic, collaborative leader who thrives in highly matrixed organizations, balancing long-term priorities with operational excellence while continuously improving processes and ways of working.
In Toronto, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $150,500 - $180,500.
