IDC marketscape names Bain & Company as a leader in worldwide people and organizational consulting services

BOSTON February 8, 2023 – Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm, has been recognized as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide People and Organizational Consulting Services 2022-2023 Vendor Assessment. The IDC MarketScape noted, “Bain’s strategy-based roots inform its People and Organization and Employee Experience practices. Bain experts advocate a client-owned design process that puts a deep emphasis on behavior change as a critical ingredient of making change stick.”

The IDC MarketScape also noted, “Bain's holistic approach to P&O is centered around operating model design. Bain begins with an understanding of the company's purpose, values, and strategy. This initial alignment is the foundation for a collaborative, fact-based, and pragmatic dialogue around how to fine-tune, or sometimes transform, various aspects of a company's operating model (e.g., leadership and culture, management systems, structure and accountability, teams, talent engine, business processes, and technology and data enablers).”

According to the IDC MarketScape, “Based on client feedback and IDC analysts' evaluation, Bain is seen to excel at leveraging a range of "assets" to accelerate delivery and improve consistency of consulting services, be able to help clients implement recommended consulting approach and ensure adoption by the client, and establish capabilities related to components of organizational change centered on how people are organized, managed, and engaged.”

Bain’s process begins with an understanding of the company's purpose, values, and strategy. This initial alignment is the foundation for a collaborative, fact-based, and pragmatic dialogue around how to fine-tune, or sometimes transform, various aspects of a company's operating model. Bain combines P&O engagements with digital solutions, aimed to facilitate consistent collaboration with various client owners, inform the design with insightful outside-in perspectives, drive alignment, and provide transparency into the work. The IDC MarketScape noted, “Bain prioritizes building clients' capabilities in the process — for example, in areas like decision making and agile ways of working.”

“We are delighted for IDC to recognize Bain as the leader setting new standards of excellence in People and Organization,” said Sarah Elk, global leader of Bain & Company's People and Organization practice. “Bain has an unbeatable track record of thought leadership and innovation to help companies accelerate strategy delivery through great organizations and inspired people.”

“Bain's delivery model favors client interactions moving from product support to tailored methodologies that produce results,” The IDC MarketScape noted. “A good choice for clients that want a provider that understands that strategy and organization design is a two-way street — that is, good organization design enables strategy execution and good strategy takes into consideration an organization's capabilities. Bain's model translates into a case team delivery approach designed for consultants to partner with you throughout the project rather than a firm that that does most of the thinking for you. The company's iterative test and learn approach are great for organizations seeking a thought and execution partner but less so for organizations looking for a cookie-cutter approach.”

The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short-term.
