Christoph Schmell

Dr Christoph Schmell is a member of our AI, Insights & Solutions (AIS) and Telecommunications, Media & Technology (TMT) practices.

He supports clients across telecommunications, software, and the public sector, with a strong focus on digital, AI, and GenAI-enabled transformations. His work spans digital/AI/GenAI strategy, customer journey digitization, end-to-end product delivery, and software implementation and adoption. His engagements include leading the development of an AI platform and commercial strategy for an AI software company in the Middle East, defining a GenAI strategy for a European industrial conglomerate, overseeing a multi‑year AI and analytics transformation for a Middle Eastern asset manager, and designing a GenAI‑based knowledge assistant for a public‑sector client.

In addition to client work, Christoph is the People Lead for AIS team members in EMEA. He also leads the adoption and change management of GenAI tools for our DACH offices, mentors AIS product managers and general consultants, and contributes to global training and local recruiting efforts. 

Before joining Bain, he completed a dissertation in Theoretical High Energy Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.

Outside of work, Christoph previously played soccer at a semi-professional level and was part of the German Bain team that won the Bain World Cup in 2018. He lives with his wife and son near Mainz, where he enjoys spending time with family and friends. His personal interests include sports, literature, sustainability, politics, and economics.
