About Henry (Hengrui)
Share your journey to Bain.
I joined Bain right after undergraduate studies. I was inspired to give consulting a shot after volunteering in a university club that provides consulting support for nonprofit organizations. I really enjoyed the rigor and impact of the work I was exposed to, and was excited to start my professional journey in a similar space.
How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?
I was fortunate enough to have a friend working at Bain. The way he described Bain's culture, especially our principle of "A Bainie Never Lets Another Bainie Fail", left a deep impression on me. It just felt like the right place.
“Build Your Own Bain” means creating a thriving career on your own terms. How have you been able to “Build Your Own Bain?”
In the first couple of years at Bain, I was intentional in seeking opportunities to work across industries, topics, and geographies. I wanted that broad exposure to figure out what the right area of specialization is for me. I've also taken sabbaticals and internal rotations within Bain.

One of my most rewarding case experiences was when we supported a global consumer packaged goods company to meet their global targets for plastic bottle collection and recycling in Asia-Pacific (APAC). On top of being a meaningful topic for their sustainability commitments, it was a strategic-level challenge that had limited clarity and consensus within the organization. We had to work closely at the grassroots level with the client teams, junkyard collectors, recycling plant operators, industry associations, and more to establish data-driven recommendations on the path forward. It was inspiring to see the Bain team working collaboratively with the clients and getting our boots on the ground to produce such a robust and high-quality answer to a nebulous problem.
