Press release
BOSTON—Jan. 27, 2022—Bain & Company has been recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The firm earned a perfect score on HRC’s annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for the 16th consecutive year. Additionally, HRC has recognized Bain & Company as one of “Mexico’s Best Places to Work for LGBTQ people,” awarding it a perfect score on the Equidad MX Index for the fourth year in a row.
“Each year, we reassess our efforts to ensure that we remain at the forefront of anti-discrimination against the LGBTQ community, setting new standards for the business world and raising the social responsibility bar for our clients everywhere,” said João Soares, global head of Bain & Company’s LGBTQ network, BGLAD. “Bain is proud of this recognition, and we will continue to execute and encourage tangible actions toward achieving equality—one bold step after another.”
“For more than two decades, Bain has held an unwavering commitment to its LGBTQ employees and the greater LGBTQ community at large” said Julie Coffman, Bain & Company’s Chief Diversity Officer. “This commitment reaches beyond just hiring and mentoring alone. We are wholly dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all of our LGBTQ employees, taking the necessary steps to ensure every team member is acknowledged, welcomed and supported on their paths to success.”
Bain was the first global consulting firm to offer reimbursements on federal taxes levied on same-sex domestic partner health benefits in the US. Today, the firm offers a robust Workplace Gender Transition Guide and extensive gender affirmation health benefits as well.
Bain invests deeply in causes and organizations that impact the global LGBTQ community, including The Tent Partnership for Refugees—through which Bain has committed to mentoring 50 LGBTQ refugees in San Francisco, New York and London—the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Immigration Equality, San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Lambda Legal. The firm also maintains partnerships with Stonewall and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF).
Additionally, Bain sponsors several missions to end discrimination against the LGBTQ community, including the Equality Act, which aims to codify LGBTQ nondiscrimination; the Uniting American Families Act in the US, which seeks to stop the deportation of binational same-sex couples; as well as many state, national and global business coalitions that advance LGBTQ equality around the globe.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the center of Bain’s business strategy. In 2021, the firm launched FurtherSM, its collective ambition toward creating a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive world. Today, more than 2,500 Bain employees are actively involved in this work, bringing together the strength of the firm’s expertise and talent to deliver transformative impact to the world’s most pressing challenges.
Since its founding in 2002, the CEI has been the nationally recognized benchmarking tool for companies to gauge their levels of LGBTQ inclusion and equality in the workplace. The 2022 CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars: Non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families, supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility.
