Bertrand Pointeau is vice president and director of Bain & Company in Paris. He joined the company as a consultant in the Boston office in 1990 and served in the Paris office from 1992 to 1998. He relocated to Korea in 1999 and headed Bain’s Seoul office for four years before returning to France.
Bertrand is a member of Bain’s global Advanced Manufacturing & Services, Energy & Natural Resources and Chemicals practices. He has developed a unique expertise advising leading service companies over many years on their strategic and operational issues.
Bertrand also leads Bain’s Customer Strategy and Marketing practice in the Paris office. His competencies include strategy, customer segmentation, customer loyalty, customer experience optimization, sales force effectiveness, channel strategy and pricing.
In addition to his consulting responsibilities, he plays an active role in Bain's worldwide training and has served several times as program manager and trainer for various corporate training programs.
Bertrand served as an elected member of Bain’s worldwide compensation and promotion committee for six years between 2003 and 2009.
Prior to joining Bain, he started his career as a marketing representative for IBM, where he managed some of the company's largest French accounts.
Bertrand has been frequently quoted in leading business publications including Business Week, the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, Les Echos and Le Figaro. He is the author of “Korea, Knowledge exporting nation,” a report commissioned to Bain & Company by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy of the Republic of Korea. He also wrote “l’Entreprise (enfin) expliquée aux ados”, an introduction to business for teenagers, which received a prize by France’s Academy for Moral and Political Sciences in 2009.
Bertrad holds an MBA from the Wharton Business School. He graduated with honors from HEC, the Premier French Business School, and from Université de Paris II, where he earned a Master in Law.
