WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
The Manager, Data Products, Coro (BizMap Data Steward) owns the quality, reliability, and strategic evolution of Bain’s BizMap platform — a proprietary business directory powering 100M+ entity records. You will lead external vendor relationships, define data ingestion and validation strategy, and partner closely with engineering and product teams to scale the platform during a critical build phase. This role is pivotal to maintaining BizMap’s data integrity, delivering high-quality insights to case teams, and driving continuous improvements across Bain’s proprietary data ecosystem.
As a Data Steward, you will serve as the primary liaison between Bain and data vendors, coordinate ingestion workflows, monitor data quality, and help shape the evolution of BizMap’s data content to meet emerging business needs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Vendor Management
- Act as the primary liaison with data vendors to coordinate ingestion, monitor delivery timeliness, and enforce adherence to Bain’s data quality standards.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve data anomalies directly with vendors; define escalation paths and ensure corrective actions are completed and verified.
- Partner with internal engineering and platform teams to ensure vendor data is properly staged, integrated, and productized.
- Support vendor contracting and commercial governance in partnership with Bain’s central vendor management team.
Data Decisions & Signal Development
- Drive the data sourcing strategy — identify, evaluate, and onboard new vendors and datasets to expand BizMap’s coverage and competitive differentiation.
- Define and maintain logic for key data signals (e.g., revenue proxy, firm classification, data health flags) balancing business needs with technical feasibility.
- Direct data engineers and operations teams on signal implementation, setting priorities and ensuring signals remain accurate and current as underlying data evolves.
Data Quality & Validation
- Design and maintain data validation pipelines and QA workflows to proactively catch and resolve issues.
- Manage data refresh processes and cadence, ensuring timely updates of vendor feeds into BizMap.
- Monitor and improve data consistency, completeness, and comparability across disparate sources.
- Define and own data quality KPIs; partner with DataOps to implement automated checks on ingestion, matching, and schema changes, and report quality trends to leadership.
Data Improvements
- Lead initiatives to improve workflows and frameworks that raise data quality across BizMap.
- Champion automation and AI-driven approaches (e.g., quality bots, ML-based entity resolution) to validate and enrich BizMap data at scale, reducing reliance on manual processes.
- Identify and drive enhancements in BizMap’s enrichment, standardization, and resolution capabilities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Internal Advocacy
- Serve as BizMap’s internal product evangelist — drive adoption across consulting teams, demonstrate value to senior leadership, and ensure stakeholders understand how to leverage BizMap signals and insights.
- Collect and synthesize feedback from consulting teams, solution owners, and product managers to guide data roadmap priorities.
- Represent BizMap in data governance forums and ensure alignment with Bain’s broader data strategy.
ABOUT YOU
This role follows a hybrid model, requiring in-office presence at least 2 days per week.
- 7+ years of experience in data stewardship, data quality, or data operations roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior individual contributor capacity. Professional services, analytics, SaaS, or data vendor environments strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience working with large-scale data platforms (100M+ records), particularly Snowflake, with advanced SQL proficiency.
- Hands-on experience in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, workflow orchestration tools).
- Strong background in data quality management, vendor relations, and data governance practices.
- Familiarity with data ingestion pipelines, data validation frameworks, and entity resolution techniques.
- Experience partnering with engineering and product teams to operationalize large-scale data.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, manage vendor relationships strategically, and drive decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Knowledge of business signals (e.g., firmographics, financials, technographics) preferred.
What Success Looks Like
- Reliable vendor data is ingested, validated, and available on schedule.
- High-quality Bain signals are consistently maintained and trusted by case teams.
- Data issues are proactively identified and resolved with minimal disruption to downstream users.
- BizMap evolves to cover new data needs and use cases, with the Data Steward driving vendor discovery and quality enhancements.
- Stakeholders across Bain recognize BizMap as the gold standard for business directory data.
