BAIN & COMPANY CLINCHES THE TOP SPOT ON GLASSDOOR’S 2017 BEST PLACES TO WORK LIST

The firm is the only company to earn three number one rankings from Glassdoor and has consistently ranked in the top four for each of the last nine years

Boston – Dec. 7, 2016 – Bain & Company, the global business consultancy, has clinched the top spot on Glassdoor’s 2017 Best Places to Work list, making it the only company to earn a number one ranking on three separate occasions. The firm has consistently ranked in the top four since Glassdoor founded the list in 2008.

“We are incredibly proud that Glassdoor continues to recognize Bain as a great place to work,” said Russ Hagey, Bain’s Chief Talent Officer. “This ranking is especially meaningful because it comes from our employees. It is testament to the culture we’ve established and that we reinforce every day – one that ensures we’re delivering impact for our clients while also creating a highly supportive environment that helps employees not just succeed, but thrive personally and professionally.”

Employees highlight the opportunity to work with global clients – leaders in their respective industries – to create real, tangible results, not just theoretical answers. Early in their careers, Bain consultants work across industries, capabilities and geographies. This broad-based, ‘generalist’ experience enables them to see connections that others might miss and to identify areas of interest to build expertise over time. Bain’s highly collaborative approach to working with clients, combined with the deep industry and capability expertise of its partners and principals, enables the firm’s clients to achieve breakthrough results.

A Bain manager writes on Glassdoor, “I hear over and over again from my clients that ‘it just feels different to team with [Bain].’ They love our work, and they also love working with us. That makes a client services job incredibly rewarding as you often find yourself developing strong friendships, as well as advisory relationships, with senior clients. Our rate of enduring clients who actively call Bain for their toughest problems speaks for itself.”

In addition to a focus on client success, Bain invests heavily in the success of its employees.

“Our entire business model is based on successes—success for our clients and for our team members. We like to think that one cannot happen without the other. That’s why we are committed to encouraging and enabling our employees’ personal and professional growth, through training, mentorship and on-the-job coaching,” said Hagey.

Bain’s home office model, which is unique in the consulting field, creates a true team environment – a ‘home’ and a sense of community for each staff member, regardless of where in the world their work takes them. It also fosters real, lasting mentorship (both formal and informal) with the senior leadership in that office. This support matters in consulting as new employees learn the job from their peers in an apprenticeship setting.

A Bain manager writes on Glassdoor, “It's in [our] DNA to support one another, coach, and mentor. I feel like I have an amazing set of mentors supporting my career, all the way from senior directors to my peers to our [associate consultants]…. We constantly push our teams to deliver the best work we can, and as part of this we stretch our people to learn new skills and build towards their personal career goals. It is awesome to watch [my colleagues] succeed, both at Bain and outside of Bain.”

As further evidence of its supportive environment, Bain, along with its sister organization, The Bridgespan Group, recently received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality.

“It's hard not [to] love the ability to have a material impact on our clients' businesses, the long-term development of the people with whom we work (both clients and teams), and the way that Bain operates through constant innovation,” said one Glassdoor reviewer. “It's what still keeps me here after so many years.”

The annual Glassdoor ranking is based on reviews from employees who elect to provide feedback on their jobs, work environment and key workplace attributes, such as compensation, culture and values, senior management and work-life balance.
