Herbert Blum is the Chairman of our Telecommunications & Digital Infrastructure practice.

Since joining the firm more than 27 years ago, he has worked extensively with leading global network service providers, their equipment vendors, and major private equity investors. 

As an industry, the coming decade will bring more change than the last two and half decades combined. The impact of virtualization of connectivity is not yet fully appreciated...it will be monumental. Brace for impact!

Herbert Blum

Herbert is a recognized thought leader on the future of the telecommunications industry, with published work spanning next-generation technology monetization, capital investment strategy, 5G network evolution, and carrier growth models. His insights have been featured in various media outlets. Prior to joining Bain, he founded HPC M, where he built a 130-person salesforce for telecom services across Western Canada, and later held roles at Fonorola (Sprint/MCI). He currently serves on the board of Telecon Inc., Canada’s leading telecommunication network infrastructure services provider.

Herbert holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and an MA in economics from Queen’s University. He also earned the Zwischenprüfung in theoretical mathematics from the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany. Herbert has been awarded a host of honours and awards for his academic achievements. 

Outside of work, Herbert supports multiple charities in the Greater Toronto Area and volunteers to advance the independence of underprivileged women in India. He is a father of three and a native German speaker.
