Jorge Leis, a partner in Bain & Company's Houston office, was a panelist at the Society of Petroleum Engineers' Annual Technology Conference & Expo's discussion on how the oil and gas industry will meet energy demand that is expected to rise 32% by 2040. According to Leis, "We should not look to demand as a salvation." Even though the US offers a flicker of hope in terms of demand, there has not been a hoped-for recovery in Europe and China has decelerated growth.
