Private equity firms in Asia-Pacific want a higher degree of control over their portfolio companies, as they seek to thrive in the face of slower economic growth and industry consolidation. "Previously it was much more about finding a decent company and they are going to do okay, but now it's 'what am I going to do to drive profit growth?'," said Suvir Varma, who leads Bain & Company's Asia-Pacific Private Equity practice.
