Anouk Ploeg: From Bain's Amsterdam office, Anouk is working with the WEF team in Geneva, in the first year of the project "Food Action Alliance".
“Food has always been an important topic in my life, both personally and professionally. I come from a family of bakers, and love spending my time baking/cooking, but am also interested in the science, history, business and impact potential behind it. In my years at Bain, I have had the pleasure to build up my professional expertise in this field, by working with a significant number of Consumer Products companies, focusing on Food strategy. Furthermore, I have spent a significant part of my time in Bain’s Social Impact Practice, supporting our Economic Development pillar, working with clients such as UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Oxfam International. And lastly, with my Finance background I’m interested in building out my expertise in Sustainable Finance as a key enabler to unlock systemic change.
I am really excited to be given the opportunity to combine my passion for all these three topics through my secondment at the World Economic Forum / Food Action Alliance. The Food Action Alliance is a coalition of 35+ leading organizations that through collective action, significantly strengthen the impact of agricultural value chains. We aim to build sustainable food systems that deliver better, faster, and at scale on food security and nutrition, inclusive growth and decent jobs, environmental sustainability and climate resilience, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 35+ members of the FAA are senior executives of the world’s leading actors in food systems, both globally and locally. Together, we build a platform that can identify, support and codify groundbreaking, innovative solutions to systematically transform food systems. We go beyond ‘just talking’, but are actively rolling up our sleeves and supporting initiatives with business advice and a support network of stakeholders to really achieve impact at scale. This is a very fulfilling experience for me: I get the opportunity to connect with so many senior executives of leading food and economic development organizations, as well as actively contributing with my business advisory skills to making a lasting impact.”
