ECD plays a critical role as it adds value to Bain's case teams globally by supporting them with analytics and research solutioning across all industries, specific domains for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence or Bain intellectual property. The BCN comprises of Consulting Services, Knowledge Services and Shared Services.
Who you will work with
BCN Private Equity Group CoE at Bain & Company provides specialized support to global teams across the private equity value chain, enabling clients to make key investment decisions. Our expertise lies in addressing critical diligence questions through a range of products such as survey analytics, digital diagnostic, workforce analytics and disruption assessment. Our teams work in a fast-paced environment delivering consistent and impactful results at scale. In the last decade, we have witnessed an exponential growth, reaching >250 members today from ~10 members in 2013. We operate from 4 locations – 2 in India, 1 in Poland and 1 in Mexico, and operate across all 3 regions (EMEA, Americas and APAC). BCN PEG provides an opportunity to solve challenging business problems in a dynamic set-up working closely with global Bain teams, acting as a thought-partner and bringing deep technical expertise.
What you’ll do
As a System Architect in BCN PEG Alpha, you will oversee the implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems used by Bain’s global case teams. This role combines architectural ownership, hands-on engineering, and technical team leadership. You will shape technical strategy, guide developers across multiple projects, and ensure that PEG tools are robust, reusable, and aligned with Bain’s security and responsible AI standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Own the end-to-end architecture and technical roadmap for a portfolio of internal tools and platforms.
- Make key decisions on technology stack, frameworks, infrastructure, and design patterns, balancing speed, scalability, security, maintainability, and cost.
- Design scalable, resilient, and secure systems across frontend, backend, data, and cloud layers.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, and performance.
- Proactively identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, and trade-offs, communicating clearly with stakeholders.
- Implement critical and complex components directly, particularly for high-impact features, integrations, and performance-sensitive workflows.
- Review architecture and code to ensure consistency with standards and long-term maintainability.
- Drive reuse of components and shared capabilities across PEG tools.
- Shape and guide the implementation of AI/LLM-based capabilities (e.g., RAG pipelines, tool calling, agents, intelligent workflows).
- Ensure alignment with Bain’s security, data governance, and responsible AI standards.
- Translate business and case-team requirements into clear technical solutions, delivery roadmaps, and implementation plans.
- Align with various stakeholders including case team, Bain partners and end-clients on priorities and timelines.
- Balance architectural rigor with pragmatic delivery in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Manage and coach engineers, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
- Provide strong technical mentorship and elevate engineering standards across the team.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and capability development within BCN PEG Alpha
About you
- Strong full-stack engineering experience, including:
- Server-side technologies such as FastAPI, Flask, Node.js, or similar frameworks.
- Client-side frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js, with solid HTML/CSS fundamentals.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices, with strong understanding of API design best practices.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization/orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps), including automated testing and deployment.
- Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, performance optimization, and automated testing.
- Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modeling, schema design, and query performance optimization.
- Exposure to or hands-on experience implementing AI/LLM-based systems (e.g., RAG, Open AI Responses API).
- Strong code review and technical mentorship skills; proven ability to elevate less-experienced engineers.
- Demonstrated experience defining and improving engineering processes (agile practices, estimation, release management).
- Ability to set technical direction while remaining hands-on and execution-focused.
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable balancing engineering excellence with delivery timelines in a consulting-driven environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.
Work experience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant work on web and cloud-based applications.
- 2+ years in a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Engineering Manager like role, leading engineers across architecture, implementation, and delivery (formally or informally).
