Over the past two decades, Bain has formalized industry and capability areas, internally known as Practices, that are integral to how we win and deliver results for our clients. Our Practices help drive growth in particular industries and capabilities while strengthening Bain’s expertise and commercial excellence.


Our Consumer Products practice is one of Bain’s fastest-growing and most vibrant industry practice areas. You’ll join a global team of approximately 20 colleagues across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific that works closely with partners, managers, and client-facing teams to bring Bain’s best Consumer Products expertise to our clients.


You’ll report to the Practice Area Director and work closely with the Practice Executive Vice President, Global Practice Leader, relevant Global Product Leaders, and Consumer Products affiliate partners across the firm. You’ll also collaborate closely with our knowledge management team and have the opportunity to manage Consumer Products Bain Capability Network IP teams.


Beyond the immediate Consumer Products team, you’ll be part of a global community of industry and capability Practice Consultants and Managers, as well as Bain’s broader Product, Practice, and Knowledge team of more than 400 people globally.


WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM


As a Practice Area Manager, you’ll play an important role in advancing Bain’s Consumer Products intellectual property (IP), expertise, and commercial capabilities. You’ll help identify emerging topics, develop and own critical Consumer Products IP, and translate Bain’s best thinking into insights and approaches that support our client-facing teams.


You’ll combine deep Consumer Products knowledge with strong stakeholder management, thought partnership, and team leadership, working across a global network to help strengthen the practice and its impact.


WHAT YOU’LL DO


  • Drive our Consumer Products IP roadmap and priorities
    • Connect with practice leadership and affiliates to identify critical topics for new content development.
    • Develop perspectives on competitor offerings across relevant sectors, solutions, and products.
    • Proactively recommend new IP topics and help determine their priority and required resourcing.
  • Develop and own sector-specific IP
    • Develop and own critical Consumer Products IP, including points of view, reports, research, and new approaches.
    • Contribute to areas such as our Future of Consumer Products and Insurgent Brands research, as well as other work focused on Consumer Products trends and disruptions.
    • Connect regularly with selling and serving teams to gather insights and incorporate Bain’s latest experience into our IP.
  • Customize and commercialize Bain IP
    • Work with capability leaders across areas such as M&A, Strategy, and Performance Improvement to tailor broader Bain solutions and product IP to the Consumer Products sector.
    • Partner with the marketing liaison to adapt IP into compelling marketing content.
  • Accelerate commercial impact
    • Provide thought partnership to selling and serving teams, including designing and delivering onboarding and bootcamps for case teams.
    • Participate directly in client selling and serving in areas where your IP work has developed deep expertise.
    • Support internal and external events, including preparing practice leaders for keynote speaking engagements and client-facing webinars.
  • Collaborate across the practice
    • Work with the broader practice team to support ongoing practice operations.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen affiliate and sector or solution team capabilities through recent IP developments and innovations.
  • Coach and develop others
    • Coach and mentor colleagues across the practice team, contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.
    • Apprentice practice area teams and analysts on the approach, content, and design of IP development efforts.


ABOUT YOU

You bring:

  • 6–9 years of professional services and/or Consumer Products experience with an undergraduate degree, or 5–6 years of experience with an MBA or master’s degree.
  • Experience, expertise, or a strong interest in Consumer Products.
  • A demonstrated track record of owning complex areas of work or portfolios with limited supervision.
  • The ability to set direction, frame priorities, and confidently recommend changes in direction when needed.
  • Strong prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-priority workstreams, adjust priorities in real time, set stakeholder expectations, and recognize when additional support is needed.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to lead meetings and manage substantial, complex portions of discussions.
  • Experience successfully navigating meetings with senior stakeholders who may hold different viewpoints.
  • A collaborative approach, growth mindset, and commitment to coaching and developing others.
  • Management experience and comfort leading remote teams while fostering inclusion in a global working environment.
  • Experience with and willingness to adopt the latest AI tools to advance your work.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Flexibility to work across time zones as needed to collaborate with a global team.
  • Ability to meet in-office requirements in accordance with local office and Product, Practice, and Knowledge guidelines.
  • Familiarity with key Consumer Products data sources, such as NIQ, Circana, and Euromonitor, is a plus.
